Responding to a Notice of Alleged Honor Code Violation
Notice of Alleged Honor Code Violation Letters are based on allegations of Honor Code violations submitted to the Office of Academic Integrity.
Just how important is it for a student to respond to an alleged violation letter?
It is very important for the student to review the Notice of Alleged Honor Code Violation in order to understand what the alleged violation letter states, what is stated in the report that was submitted, what sanction(s) was issued, the student’s rights, and what the Honor Code process entails at this point. The student may deny the allegation or contest the sanction(s) by referring the case to the Honor Council.
To refer a case for an Honor Council hearing, students are required to use the Student Referral to the Honor Council Form to ensure all required information is included and properly tracked. The form must be read, completed, and submitted within 10 calendar days of receiving the Notice of Alleged Violation. The online form can be found at https://honorcode.web.baylor.edu/form/honor_code/student_referral.
The student's class schedule will be utilized to determine the available dates and times for a hearing. Once a hearing date is selected, the student will be notified of the date, time, and video call platform for the hearing. Prior to the hearing, the student will receive additional information about the hearing process.
If the student does not refer the matter to the Honor Council following the outlined process and within the specified timeframe, it will be recorded as a violation of the Honor Code and retained on file by the Office of Academic Integrity.
